Matt Wellner is the owner and operator of Wellner Construction. Matt
moved here to the Gunnison valley in 2000 and has been honing his
skills as a fine carpenter ever since. He has had the privillage of
working under some of the most experienced and successful carpenters
and contractors in the area. Since his arrival in 2000, Matt has been
an on and off member of the Norton Designworks team based here in
Crested Butte, and run by Sean Norton. When things slowed down at
Norton Designworks, Matt picked up work as a sub contract framer and
finish carpenter with locally owned Faust Mtn Properties. It was with
this local company that Matt teamed up with Jason Stubbe, a Master
carpenter like no other. Jason’s hard work ethics and attention to
efficient and meticulous framing have made a huge impact on Matt.
Picking up on these skills and continuing to develop and learn new
secrets of the trade make Matt an excellent choice for all types of
carpentry work. In late 2007 and early 2008 Matt teamed up with
Hargrove Construction, learning a bit about commercial building and
embracing Hargrove’s’ attention to finished details. After
having been under the wings of some of Crested Buttes finest for
several years Matt was finally ready to lead his own project, from
foundation to finish. Ben Somrak, of Somrak Concept and Structure
hired Matt to lead the team and build Bens' own home in the Buckhorn
Ranch subdivision, just south of Crested Butte. The project was a huge
success and a true testament to all the skills and knowledge that Matt
has acquired. Other interests of Matt’s include Rock Climbing,
Snowboarding, Backpacking and Traveling the world. Matt can also be
seen out Skijoring with his dog Thor in the Crested Butte backcountry
from time to time. At least once every year Matt travels back to
Minnesota to see his wonderful family that still lives there.
